Bioplastic made from wheat straw is produced using by-products from food processing such as residues from flour production. The leftover straw unsuitable for consumption is not burned but given a new life as plastic. Wheat straw-based bioplastic does not use fossil fuels (petroleum) like conventional plastic production, and its manufacturing process generates significantly less CO2. Furthermore, wheat binds more CO2 from the air than is produced during photosynthesis, resulting in a carbon-neutral production. Wheat straw is considered a sustainable raw material, free from toxic pollutants, BPA-free, and is qualitatively comparable to conventional plastic.
