Perfect for schools, we supply a selection of Wide Top djembe drums for a range of group sizes. With options suited for Primary and Secondary school classes as well as adult sessions, the Wide Top djembe is lighter and takes up less storage space without compromise on tone and quality €“ great for education institutions with limited space.
Specifically designed for the classroom, the drum heads are extra wide and strong with smooth shells inside and out to protect young hands. Rubber edging at the base protects your floor and staging, plus it protects the drum if playing outdoors. With pack sizes ranging from 10 to 30 players and options to mix and match, there is a Wide Top djembe set for any class or group.
To complete the education experience, each pack is supplied with a teaching guide from world percussion and education expert, Andy Gleadhill. €˜African Drumming Book 1€™ will take you from learning basic tones to playing a tune in no time, giving you all the tools you need to create the best experience for your djembe group.
Each pack features three sizes of djembe to play the low, medium, and high parts of any African Drumming piece. The Secondary packs include 12€, 10€, and 9€ drums. The Primary packs have 10€, 9€, and 8€ drums €“ perfect for younger players.
These drums are made from sustainably sourced mahogany, certified by the SVLK system. In fact, the smaller sized drums are made from timber offcuts left over from the manufacturing of flooring and furniture. Each drum is turned on a lathe and hand finished for consistency in shape, smoothness and tone.
Thicker than the typical djembe head, these drums can literally take a beating! This not only makes it more durable and last longer, it also creates a mellower tone €“ a great feature when teaching large classes of enthusiastic djembe players...
A traditional stringing technique is used to stretch the goatskin head between the metal rings until it produces a satisfying tone. Spare rope is left so, if you wish, you can fine-tune the djembe to your desired tone. A rope tuned djembe not only looks great and gives you freedom to experiment with tuning, it also offers an opportunity to introduce young classes to a tactile, traditional drum.
Each drum is well finished with young players in mind. The wooden shell is smooth inside and out to protect hands, and is treated with linseed oil and sealer for longevity. The rubber edging is there to protect your flooring and stages from scratches, and drum from cracking if dropped. It also keeps the instrument sturdy while you play.
Based on decades of specialised experience teaching world percussion, Andy Gleadhill€™s African Drumming Book 1 is supplied with every pack to help teachers and workshop leaders teach African drumming to groups and classes. No previous drumming experience is needed, this resource will take you from the basic playing techniques to performing complete pieces ready for performance.
Each pack contains drums in three different sizes, tuning wedges and a copy of Andy Gleadhill€™s African Drumming Book 1
