Wolf tones occur when the resonant frequency of a particular string (vibrating in motion) and the resonant frequency of the vibrating body of the cello interact and clash with each other and produce a thumping tone while playing. These wolf note suppressors are made to absorb the vibrational energy at the critical frequency and eliminates the wolf tone.
