Due to the relatively low demand for double reed woodwinds, all cor anglais makers still build each instrument by hand which drives costs up and means there are many design variations. By using cheaper materials and automating some of the process, the experts at John Packer have finally managed to put out an affordable cor anglais that performs as well as many much more expensive instruments.
The JP282 is a fantastic mid-range cor anglais at an entry level price whose reliability and performance quality will be appreciated by students and experienced amateurs alike. It has a full dual keywork system with semi-automatic octaves, banana key, articulated C#, right and left hand trill keys, and little finger F key.
The ebonite hard rubber body isn't affected by temperature or humidity and is impervious to cracking which is a common problem with wooden instruments. Despite its relative cheapness, it responds just like a wooden alternative, with a beautiful warm tone and large dynamic range. The scale is even and intonation excellent; if necessary the tuning can be adjusted by swapping the crook (or bocal).
As with all John Packer outfits this instrument is supplied with a high quality moulded carry case. The cor anglais also comes with a reed, two crooks (or bocals), cleaning materials, and grease.
