This Sonix violin is a good quality, affordable instrument which is perfect for beginner players. The back and sides are constructed from flamed maple and the top is made from spruce, all covered with an attractive antique gloss finish. The quality of materials used to build the Secundo is slightly higher than the Sonix Student model.
The bridge and strings are fitted before delivery meaning it's ready to play straight out of the box. Bridges are not fixed to the violin but kept in place under the pressure of the strings' tension - this is true of all bowed stringed instruments and something to be aware of if you are just starting.
Each violin is supplied as an outfit. This means that as well as being fully set up, it comes with a hardwood bow, a block of rosin, and a hard case with moulded interior and pockets for accessories.
The strings will probably need tuning straight away. The ebony tuning pegs are nicely fitted and operate smoothly, and fine tuning is made easier by 4 adjustors (one for each string) built into the fitted tail piece. Tuning will require practice but once you've got the hang of it this instrument will hold its tuning well - an important consideration when buying your first violin.
This instrument is available in a variety of sizes - for children it is worth asking the teacher to recommend the appropriate size, or if you are local why not pop in to our Haslemere showroom where our staff will be delighted to advise.
